Director, Business Development

Background

 

Box of Crayons is looking for an individual to take on the role of Director, Business Development. It’s a new role in our Sales team, and we are excited to be bringing on a someone who loves developing new clients, bringing them “over the line”, and yet has the experience to also manage existing clients for growth to help us meet our Sales goals.

Box of Crayons strengthens leadership and culture within organizations by giving busy managers and leaders the tools to coach in a way that works. We design and deliver coaching programs that reframe how people think about coaching (how it can be done, and its ability to transform their work), and by supporting them in changing behaviours to embed as habit the new skills we introduce in the programs. Our ambition is to help organizational cultures shift from advice-driven to curiosity-led.

Our current program offer has been very successful. Our programs are enthusiastically embraced by participants: more than 96% of participants would recommend them to a colleague. They have been delivered at all levels of an organization, and in organizations across the world. In short, our programs are elegant, fun, highly interactive, and teach practical, “same day ready” skills that are useful for the participants and aligned to business outcomes.  Our clients are loyal and enthusiastic.

At the same time, Box of Crayons is redefining its brand and ready to engage with the marketplace in a new way.  We are shifting our focus to large corporate clients, and need an experienced sales professional who can build relationships and close the deal with our target corporate partners.  We’re excited to work with a business development expert who can bring a proven approach to B2B sales and negotiations that will translate to increased sales and new clients.

 

About the Role

 

You will:

  • Develop and close new business, particularly with large corporate clients
  • Manage a select number of existing key corporate accounts for growth
  • Set, achieve, and report on sales targets
  • Travel – occasionally, depends upon successful candidate’s location
  • Report to the VP of Sales & Marketing

 

You are:

  • a driven, numbers-focussed sales professional who thrives on achieving targets
  • a prospector, researcher, negotiator, and deal-closer
  • flexible and able to exercise judgment in a changing environment
  • comfortable working remotely in a virtual environment
  • patient, and understand that working in an entrepreneurial environment often means building things in the moment
  • empathetic and consultative, able to build partnership relationships with clients
  • extremely organized
  • able to respond urgently when warranted and take time to deliberate when appropriate

 

You have

  • Sales chops. You have experience:
    • Managing a book of business, setting and achieving sales goals.
    • Building market position by locating, developing, defining, and closing business relationships.
    • Identifying trendsetter ideas by researching industry and related events, publications, and announcements.
    • Tracking prospects and their accomplishments.
    • Locating or proposing potential business by contacting potential clients.
    • Building deal strategies, including risk assessment, negotiation strategies
    • Completing Sales administration activities – tracking data, using CRM to report on status and progress.

 

  • Communication chops. You have:
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
    • Fluency with identifying and communicating the value proposition and return on investment for prospects and clients.
    • Strong emotional intelligence and an ability to infer what is not being said by a customer in conversation.
    • Experience writing effective proposals, whether for a formal RFP response, or as part of a comprehensive Sales approach to securing new business partnerships.

 

  • Corporate chops. You have:
    • Experience selling in large corporate environments, either as an employee or a service provider.
    • Experience influencing stakeholders and decision makers at multiple levels of a company.
    • Keen understanding of how large companies make decisions, budget resources, and choose to partner with third party service providers.

 

  • Market research chops. You:
    • Understand the target markets, including industry, company, project, company contacts and which market strategies can be used to attract clients.
    • Follow the latest industry developments and stay up-to-date on corporate competitors.

 

  • An impressive background. You have:
    • Bachelor’s degree
    • 12-15 years’ business development experience
    • Experience in an L&D or intellectual property company (preferred).
